The meaning of being Great
After much persuasion from a "Mr Blogger" in my organisation, I have decided to take the first "painful" step to creating a blog; unaware of the implications of such a move...I haven't really decided what I want to "create" here, if anything at all. But for a start, I have always wondered what makes someone "great"? Like in a book I read, the protagonist is constantly grappling with the question of "what makes a great butler"? As a librarian, I am often thinking "what makes a great librarian?" Or for that matter, what makes a great teacher, policemen, nurse, designer, etc? Your thoughts?

Welcome to the Blogosphere Mr. G-blog. The implications of having your own blog? Well, just remember to 'blog smart' and the implications will be positive ones, while complications will be nil. :)
What makes someone "great"? I think it's when that person has (1) made a positive difference in someone's life, (2) compared to others. Those two elements must be there. Re: (2), it goes back to the definition of Great", i.e. defined as "above the normal or average". Hence, something is great when compared to something else.
For instance, I can think a few teachers who've made a "positive difference" in my life. I asked if I'd consider them "great", and I have to say the answer is yes. I've had good teachers. But the outstanding/ great ones are those whom I can directly attribute to them, a change in my behaviour/ thinking/ confidence.
